Τίτλος Ομιλίας: Solving computational problems with quantum bits: a new paradigm

Περίληψη Ομιλίας: After a brief introduction to the weirdness of single-photon interferometry, I will show how the concept of information sneaks into quantum mechanics. I will analyze a simple optical interferometer in terms of quantum bits and quantum gates, which will lead me to discuss one of the earliest quantum algorithms, namely the Deutsch-Jozsa algorithm for oracle problems. Then, I will turn to one of the most striking features of quantum mechanics, namely entanglement. I will revisit in an informational language a famous quantum paradox due to Greenberger, Horne, and Zeilinger, and show how it can be turned into a quantum technique to solve a distributed computing problem.
