Progress in SUSY breaking

If supersymmetry plays a role in Nature, then how it came to be broken is one of the outstanding mysteries. Recently significant progress was made in this area by Seiberg and collaborators, who discovered metastable minima in almost the simplest supersymmetric models that one can imagine. One cause of supersymmetry could be that the Universe happens to be stuck in such a minimum. In this talk I will discuss the progress that has been made in trying to realise this idea, concentrating on the cosmological properties of the models and on how they might broadly impact on phenomenology at the LHC.
